Networks trash talk over showbiz show ratings

TORONTO – Two press releases. Two truths. You be the judge.

First, from Global TV: “And the momentum continues… since January, Entertainment Tonight Canada has surpassed the competition to become the No.1 entertainment news program across the country, in all key demos.”

Now, from CTV: “CTV confirmed today that, despite claims to the contrary, more Canadians watch eTalk than any other Canadian entertainment news program. Data from BBM Nielsen media research representing a nation-wide picture of television viewing in Canada confirms that eTalk leads all competition in total viewers.”

Global, using January to April data, says across the country ET Canada pulled in 479,000 people, aged 2 and over, compared to 466,000 for CTV’s eTalk.

CTV, using data for Aug. 28, 2006 to April 1, 2007, says eTalk lured in 473,000, compared to 443,000 for ET Canada. Its January to April numbers peg eTalk’s numbers at 479,000, compared to 475,000 for ET Canada.
