Network and Security Engineer/Architect – CPAC

We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Network and Security Engineer/Architect to join our team.

The Role

CPAC is seeking an organized, technically advanced individual to join our Technical Operations team. The chosen individual will have exceptional people skills and thrives in a busy, multidisciplinary, always changing environment. They will primarily be responsible for network administration and engineering while being actively involved in security operations and end user support.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, administer, monitor, sustain, and support IT and broadcast technology that employ a broad variety of hardware, software, applications, and operating systems that enable CPAC to acquire, produce, edit, store, and playout content.
  • Evaluate networks for performance, scalability, manageability, segregation, and security and provide recommendations to optimize the network operations and performance.
  • Integrate media over IP workflows, specifically deploying SMPTE 2110 audio/video flows in a managed IT ecosystem.
  • Produce and review technical statement of work and training documentation and provide/deliver support, training, and guidance for employees and contractors.
  • Active participation as member of support team including responding to escalations, system outages, malfunctions, or other technical problems, and conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities.
  • Engage with third-party service providers and vendors to obtain product or service information, demos, pricing, conduct PoCs, implement agreed upon scopes of work, etc.
  • Provide clear leadership and ownership for all aspects of technical projects (i.e. adding new network infrastructure) from start to finish including conducting a needs analysis, solution design, budget preparation and tracking, procurement (solicit proposals, defining a scope of work, issue purchase orders), implementation (design, installation, commissioning, training), and reporting.
  • Create documentation including but not limited to test plans, operating runbooks, and project documentation (scope of work, run lists, drawings).
  • Work with security team members to identify, monitor, and mitigate potential cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities and install patches.
  • Monitor and manage security dashboards and create reports.
  • Proactively monitor the health of network, storage, and servers to ensure the maximum uptime and optimal performance.
  • Provide on-call after-hours support via phone, remote troubleshooting, and if needed, in attending person.
  • Travel on occasion to deploy and support infrastructure and operational requirements.
  • Keep up-to-date knowledge on industry trends and best practices.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, and Experience):

  • Completion of university degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Relevant IT networking, security, and VMware certifications an asset (i.e. Network+, Security+, CCNA, CCNP, VCP, CISSP, etc.)
  • 2 years’ hands on experience configuring, managing, and supporting networks and firewalls in a data center environment (Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, Aruba, Fortinet, etc.)
  • Hands on experience and working knowledge of variety of network technologies protocols (TCP, PTP, IGMPv2/v3, BGP, OSPF, PIM, VLANs, QoS, SSH, NAT, HTTP/S, FTP, VPN, etc.).
  • Familiarity with operating and deploying SMPTE 2110 audio/video over IP systems, specifically in flow management in both a dedicated and COTS based switching systems is desirable.
  • 2 years’ experience providing end user technical support in a customer first environment.
  • Experience with IT automation, orchestration, and scripting (Python, PowerShell) is an asset.
  • Proficient with Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Microsoft Network Infrastructure (Active Directory, Global Catalog, Domain Contoller, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy).
  • Experience managing and administering virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi, vSwitch, VMKernel), servers (Microsoft Server OS and Linux), databases (SQL), and storage systems is an asset.
  • Experience using cable run lists (MS Excel) and drawing tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, and/or Lucidchart is an asset.
  • Well-developed organization and planning skills with a proven ability to prioritize.
  • Exceptional ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues quickly.
  • A high level of attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-up.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assist others and a collaborative spirit that fosters positive working relationships across various departments.
  • Proven ability to work as a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains an environment that recognizes, supports, respects, and welcomes diversity of employees.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Physical demands include working in both office and equipment room/data center environments. Ability to work on a 6-foot ladder and carry, push, and pull up to 30lbs+ occasionally (i.e. equipment installation in rack, inspect cabling in tray, etc.) required.
  • Must be able to occasionally work after hours as required (i.e. maintenance, upgrades, emergencies) and available to be on call for after-hours support.

Salary range: $75,000- $95,000

This is a full-time permanent position with competitive benefits. The successful candidate will be required to work in person at the CPAC office, downtown Ottawa. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00-18:00 eastern but subject to change based on operational requirements.
