Negotiations continue between News Corp. and Time Warner Cable


TIME WARNER Cable and Fox remain in discussions over retransmission-consent thanks to a “brief extension” of its contract, says a story on Broadcasting and Cable.

The parties’ pact expired at midnight on December 31, 2009, but an extension prevented Fox from pulling its signals from the second largest cable operator in the U.S., as it has threatened to do.

In related news, Scripps Networks Interactive channels Food Network and HGTV went off the air on Cablevision systems at midnight on New Year’s Eve after that cable operator failed to negotiate new rates for programming distribution rights.

According to a Scripps Networks Interactive press release, Cablevision’s contract allowing it to carry the two networks expired at midnight on December 31, 2009.

Cablevision serves 3 million subscribers in New York City, Long Island and the Tri-State Region .
