TORONTO and UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – NBC announced it has acquired Bell Media’s new Canadian medical drama Transplant.
Since the February 26 premiere, the show has built a strong audience “and is the most-watched Canadian series with total viewers this broadcast year, seeing ongoing week-over-week audience growth,” reads the release. The show is co-produced with NBCUniversal International Studios.
The 13-episode series centers on Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed, a Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine who fled his country with his younger sister, Amira. Together they struggle to build a new life in Canada as Bash strives to rebuild his career in medicine.
Transplant stars Hamza Haq (Quantico), Laurence Leboeuf (The Disappearance), John Hannah (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jim Watson (Mary Kills People) and Ayisha Issa (Polar).
Developed at CTV, the show is produced by Sphère Média Plus in association with CTV and NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles worldwide distribution for the series.
“Transplant has been an incredible success story for CTV, and we are thrilled this exceptional series will find new audiences in the United States on NBC. With compelling storylines and an outstanding cast, the series is sure to resonate with viewers in the U.S., as it has in Canada.”
The release did not say when it will begin airing on NBC.
