NAB challenges “unnecessary regulation” with ‘Future of TV’ campaign

WASHINGTON, D.C – The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is behind a new consumer-oriented website that launched this week touting television’s new technologies and services, underlined by the need for a “marketplace free of unnecessary regulation”.

The Future of TV site highlights advancements in broadcast TV technology, local TV stations’ role in serving communities, the policies that will shape the future of TV, and includes various choices and content options available to viewers through digital multicasting.  Consumers visiting the website will also be able to share their thoughts on the value of free and local broadcast TV.

Last month, the NAB unveiled an on-air campaign on the future of broadcast TV using a 30-second television and radio ad.  The spots, which can be downloaded here, are airing now through January 24 in English and Spanish in various markets in the U.S.  Their copy reads: "What’s the future of broadcast TV?  It’s HD, 3D, mobile TV — technology, not regulation from Washington, D.C."

In a message on its website, NAB said that broadcasters who choose to air the spots “will send a clear message to members of Congress and the FCC that we strongly oppose any involuntary spectrum reallocation and changes to the retransmission consent process that would negatively impact TV stations’ ability to inform and entertain their viewers”.
