NAB 2010: Still a big draw

LAS VEGAS – Spread over 800,000 square feet and featuring over 1,500 exhibiting companies, the National Association of Broadcasters convention is a great big beast of a show.

It used to be much bigger though. Late Tuesday organizers were delighted that the attendance figures for “the world’s largest electronic media event covering filmed entertainment and the development, management and delivery of content across all mediums” rose a little over last year’s admittedly glum event. We can confirm that spirits among broadcasters are certainly higher this year, too.

"Content professionals from across the globe turned out in force at the NAB Show, and we’re delighted by the extraordinarily positive feedback from both attendees and exhibitors," said NAB executive vice-president Dennis Wharton. "The uptick in attendance and dazzling technology on display here in Las Vegas demonstrates again the NAB Show’s enduring popularity and status as the premiere global event for the content marketplace."

The total registered attendees this year are 88,044 (up from 82,650 last year but way off the 110,00 or so who used to hit Vegas for this event). Of the total attendees, 23,900 are international, representing 156 countries. As for those of us in the news media covering the event, 1,153 of us crowded the press room.
