ATLANTA and L.A. – The new season of "The O.C." will premiere tomorrow on social networking site Myspace.com – as well as FOX Television’s own web sites – a full week prior to its debut on TV.
The O.C.’s second episode will also debut on the Myspace.com and MyFoxLocal web sites in advance of the show’s scheduled air date on the network. Additionally, both episodes will be available in high-quality streaming video through Fox on Demand on a free, ad-supported basis, and will be accessible for nearly a week following their television broadcasts.
Both FOX and Myspace are owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
The O.C. joins previously announced FOX programming streaming on the Myspace.com and MyFoxLocal web sites, including Prison Break, Justice, Vanished, ‘Til Death, Bones, Happy Hour, The Loop and Talkshow With Spike Feresten.
Geographic blocking technology means the shows will not be viewable online in Canada.
Also announced by Myspace this week is that it is teaming up with TBS for the superstation’s Stand Up Or Sit Down Comedy Challenge.
The online comedy competition invites amateur or rising comics to submit video samples of their work through the MySpace profile here. Beginning this week, MySpace users have the opportunity to vote for the top finalists, five of whom will then be invited to perform in a one-hour special hosted by comedian George Lopez and filmed at The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas. The special will premiere on TBS on Friday, Nov. 17.
Following the TV special, viewers can return to MySpace to vote for their favorite comedian, with the winner being announced live on TBS during a break in the network’s simulcast of the Comic Relief 2006 special Saturday, Nov. 18.
The winning comedian will receive $50,000, a development deal and other prizes.
