TORONTO – Streaming giant Netflix has cracked the list of the top four TV channels and services that U.S. viewers can’t live without, says Solutions Research Group’s annual Must Keep TV Report.
SRG said that Netflix, making its first ever appearance in the study, finished fourth behind ABC, CBS and NBC but ahead of Fox, the first time in the study’s 10-year history that the ‘Big Four’ U.S. networks failed to occupy the top four spots. Netflix bumped Fox into fifth place with American viewers, while ESPN, HBO, Discovery, PBS and CW rounded out the top 10 'must keeps'.
The three largest U.S. streaming brands – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu – were included in the report’s tracking for the first time in 2017. SRG said that they performed extremely well as a group, with all landing in the top 25 for the full 12+ population, coming in at #4 (Netflix), #14 (Amazon Prime Video) and #22 (Hulu).
More U.S. households now have a streaming service than a DVR, which means that digital-era services will continue to grow in importance, particularly among younger Americans, continues the report. Click here for more on the 2017 Must Keep TV Report.
