Musicians McLachlan, Lavoie, to enter CAB Hall

VANCOUVER – The Canadian Association of Broadcasters will add Sarah McLachlan and Daniel Lavoie to its Hall of Fame in the Music Star category at the 2006 CAB Convention in Vancouver.

The induction ceremonies will take place during the CAB Gold Ribbon Awards Gala on Tuesday November 7 at the Westin Bayshore Resort.

McLachlan, a Halifax native and Vancouver resident, spent years studying classical piano, guitar and voice before being discovered by Nettwerk Records in 1985. Since then, she has sold over 26 million records worldwide. The winner of eight Juno awards and three Grammy awards, McLachlan is also the founder of the Lilith Fair tour, which brought together more than two million people during its three-year history, and raised more than $7 million for charities.

Daniel Lavoie first entered the Canadian music scene in 1967, when he won a singing contest on the Radio-Canada program “Jeunesse Oblige”. The Dunrea, Manitoba native recorded his first full-length album in 1975, and went on to become one of the first francophone artists to have success on both sides of the Atlantic.

Over the course of his career, Lavoie has garnered numerous Prix Felix Awards in Quebec, as well as a Victoires de la Music Award in France. In the 1990s, he established himself as a stage performer, notably as the priest Frollo in Luc Plamondon’s mega-production of Notre-Dame de Paris, as well as in the 2002 musical version of Le Petit Prince. In addition to performing, Lavoie is the spokesman for the Fédération canadienne pour l’alphabétisation en français (FCAF), an organization representing francophone groups and associations dedicated to French literacy in Canada, as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“We are honoured to be recognizing the tremendous contributions of these two outstanding musicians at the CAB’s 80th Anniversary Convention” said Standard Radio’s Rob Braide, CAB chair. “Both artists exemplify this country’s highest achievements in musical talent. We are also pleased that both Ms. McLachlan and Mr. Lavoie will be in attendance, and have agreed to perform at the Gold Ribbon Awards Gala on November 7”.
