Much teams up with Puretracks for online music store

TORONTO – Established Canadian online music retailer Puretracks (which is partly owned by Standard Broadcasting) has teamed up the CHUM Limited’s MuchMusic to sell music on line, the companies announced today.

Starting today at shop.muchmusic.com, users can preview, purchase, and download music to their PCs and portable MP3 players. The selection of more than a million tunes includes every major music label many independents.

Plus, the download store from MuchMusic stocks exclusive content, including songs as well as celebrity and channel playlists.

Starting today, fans of bands such as Lillix, or of MuchMusic VJs Sarah Taylor and Tim Deegan, can purchase playlists created exclusively for shop.muchmusic.com customers, "creating a unique and truly interactive music-buying experience," says the press release.

More celebrity playlists are coming, too.

Fans can also purchase the track lists from genre-specific MuchMusic programmes such as Vibe, Loud, and The Wedge. The download store is integrated with other elements of muchmusic.com, and allows users browsing the site to search for related ringtones and music videos.

To celebrate the launch of the store, MuchMusic and Windup Records are pleased to offer an exclusive acoustic version of Call Me When You’re Sober, bundled with the new album The Open Door, by multi-platinum selling band Evanescence.

“We’re evolving as our audience evolves,” said David Kines, vice-president, CHUM Television music and youth services, in a release, “and the time is right to enhance the multi-platform experience of MuchMusic to include the ability to discover, sample and purchase digital music.”

Prices range from $0.79 to $1.29 per track, and payment is made by using any of the three major credit cards.
