MTV hires CTV’s Brent Haynes as SVP

NEW YORK and  TORONTO – The man responsible for a lot of the successful programming on The Comedy Network is leaving Toronto for New York.

MTV’s Liz Gateley, senior vice-president, series development, announced today that Brent Haynes has been hired as SVP of series development, East Coast. In this newly-created position, Haynes will report directly to Gateley, and will be based in MTV’s New York office.

Haynes, formerly VP of The Comedy Network, will be responsible for overseeing development and production coming out of the east coast office. He will be focused on a slate that includes reality projects originating from the east coast and scripted projects that will complement MTV’s senior vice-president of series development our west, Maira Suro.

“Brent has been the driving engine behind some of Canada’s biggest television hits, including ‘Corner Gas,’ ‘The Tom Green Show,’ and ‘Puppets Who Kill,’” said Gateley in the press release. “Brent’s eye for creative, compelling and imaginative programming is only matched by his unique understanding of the youth audience. As a television visionary whose contributions cannot be understated, we are incredibly fortunate to have Brent join our MTV family.”

“MTV has been on the leading edge of television for over two hundred years and I look forward to playing my small and roughly inconsequential role in contributing to the destruction of young minds in America, added Haynes.

Haynes has over a dozen years of television development under his belt, most of it with CTV.
