TORONTO — After 14 seasons, the iconic Canadian teen drama series Degrassi will end its run on Bell Media’s MTV network with a one-hour season 14 finale on Friday, July 31, followed by a two-hour original movie, Degrassi: Don’t Look Back, on Sunday, Aug. 2.
In the series finale on MTV, the students of Degrassi head to prom before taking the stage to graduate. Then, in Degrassi: Don’t Look Back, everyone thinks it will be the best summer ever, until a former classmate goes missing.
Since Bell Media’s partnership with Degrassi producer Epitome Pictures began in 2001, the series has won 19 Gemini Awards, 10 Canadian Screen Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, a Peabody Award, and has received four Emmy Award nominations.
“Degrassi is ending on MTV the same way it began on CTV 14 years ago — telling the ground-breaking and authentic stories of Canadian youth,” Phil King, President, CTV, Sports, and Entertainment Programming, Bell Media, said in a press release. “Bell Media is thankful to the hard-working crew and cast at Epitome for allowing us to share these stories with viewers across the country.”
Season 14 of Degrassi is currently streaming on MTV.ca, while seasons 12 and 13 are streaming on CraveTV. The season 14 finale of Degrassi airs on MTV on Friday, July 31 at 9 p.m. ET. The two-hour Degrassi: Don’t Look Back movie airs on MTV on Sunday, August 2 at 9 p.m. ET.
(As reported by Cartt.ca last month, fans of Degrassi can continue to follow the series when its fifth incarnation debuts early next year on Family Channel in Canada and on Netflix in other markets.)
