WINNIPEG – MTS announced Tuesday it is now accepting applications from youth-serving organizations in Manitoba as part of its new community grant program focused on improving the lives of the province’s young people.

The company will offer ten $10,000 grants under its recently launched Future First plan. The community investment program includes sponsorships, grants, donations, scholarships, employee volunteerism and fundraising programs to help in the advancement of Manitoba youth.

“Our intent is to work with youth-serving organizations in our communities to remove barriers to success and help our young people achieve their full potential,” MTS Inc. CEO Pierre Blouin said in a release.

Grant applicants must submit a plan describing how their project or program will help Manitoba youth under the age of 24 in at least one of the following ways: to either enhance knowledge, skills and/or leadership capabilities; develop/acquire skills to make healthy and positive life choices; or increase capacity to cope with life's challenges.

MTS says the Future First grants are intended to support the efforts of numerous organizations across the province that are already working to overcome the obstacles that Manitoba’s youth face as a result of poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare support, and accessibility challenges.

After an initial screening process, Manitobans will be able to vote online to choose the top 20 organizations deserving of the $10,000 grants. A group of prominent Manitobans, including youth, will select the final ten recipients from the shortlisted candidates.

MTS will present the ten $10,000 grants at a special event in May, in honour of Manitoba Day on May 12, 2014, the official anniversary of the founding of the province of Manitoba. For more information visit the MTS Future First website.
