WINNIPEG – MTS Inc. has requested the federal government to intervene in collective agreement negotiations with employees, according to a statement issued by TEAM-IFPTE Local 161.
MTS Allstream is the parent company of MTS Inc., who is the regional telecom provider in Manitoba.
The union, which represents over 1,200 managers and professionals working for MTS Inc. in Manitoba, said in a release it was “shocked” when MTS Inc.’s chief negotiator asked the federal government to appoint a conciliation officer, claiming that negotiations have reached an impasse. “Considering that we have resolved a number of issues and detailed monetary proposals have not yet been exchanged, it is preposterous to claim that we’re at an impasse,” TEAM said.
According to a letter posted on TEAM’s website to the director general of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service from TEAM’s labour relations officer, the union said was still waiting for disclosure of employee information from MTS that would impact its detailed monetary proposals.
“While TEAM is concerned MTS’s application is premature, we look forward to working with the conciliator to achieve a collective agreement,” wrote Wesley Emerson, TEAM’s labour relations officer.
