MTS TV to expand west of Winnipeg

BRANDON – Canada’s largest Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service provider, MTS Allstream, says it will be taking its next generation digital television services to Portage la Prairie. It received CRTC approval to amend its existing BDU licence and can now offer MTS TV service to the area.

MTS Allstream also confirmed its intention to apply shortly to the CRTC to obtain a BDU license for the community of Brandon, Manitoba.

"We are very pleased with the CRTC’s decision, and we look forward to offering new services to the residents of Portage la Prairie," says Kelvin Shepherd, president consumer markets, MTS Allstream. "MTS TV has been a tremendous success in Winnipeg, and we are excited to have the opportunity to bring a newer, more advanced version of this innovative product to a new location in Manitoba. We look forward to sharing more details with our customers as our development work progresses over the next several months."

Earlier this year, MTS Allstream announced that it had entered into agreements with Microsoft and Alcatel-Lucent Canada Inc. to develop an evolved version of its MTS TV service, with the goal of launching a trial in 2008.

Redesign and expansion of customer care centre

MTS Allstream has also completed the redesign and expansion of its customer care centre in Brandon, Manitoba, a $400,000 project. The new space accommodates 85 workstations, meeting rooms and a lounge area, along with a clean and professional working environment with natural light and open layout.

“We are pleased to offer employees a fresh and new working environment at the Customer Care Centre in Brandon,” says Pat Solman, vice-president customer care, MTS Allstream. “Employee satisfaction is a critical component to the success of our employees and our business, and the new Centre is a great extension of that and MTS Allstream’s investment and growth in the city of Brandon.”

With 43,000 local residents, Brandon is MTS’s biggest single consumer market in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg. The company has approximately 140 employees in the Brandon area, with $7 million in salaries contributing to the local economy in 2007. Employees who work in the customer care centre answer calls from customers in Brandon and all other areas in Manitoba relating to MTS’s full suite of next-generation wireless, high-speed Internet and data, digital television and wireline voice services.
