WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream today announced two developments that will expand the number of movie titles shown in its VOD library on its MTS TV network.
The company has signed a multi-year distribution agreement with Sony Pictures Television Canada, adding such Sony titles as Rent, Zathura, The Legend of Zorro, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and The Fog, as well as MGM’s Into the Blue.
“By signing this agreement with Sony Pictures Television Canada, we can now give MTS TV customers more choice from an expanded MTS Video On Demand library,” said Kelvin Shepherd, President of Consumer Markets, MTS Allstream. “With new MTS TV features being rolled out on an ongoing basis, MTS TV continues to be recognized as one of the best digital television services in North America.”
MTS Allstream has also selected Widewine Technologies to protect its VOD content. MTS Allstream is the largest video-over-DSL provider in Canada, with more than 50,000 customers in Winnipeg, and the partnership will allow the company to forge even more new distribution deals with the world’s biggest movie distributors, Shepherd said.
To protect MTS Allstream’s VOD content, Widevine has integrated its Cypher Suite with Motorola’s Multi-Service Access Platform. The platform delivers digital video to more than 90% of North American telco video customers. Widevine also interoperates with SeaChange’s IP Video Solution, which is used by MTS Allstream to deliver VOD content.
