WINNIPEG – Of all the decisions Pierre Blouin has had to make since taking over as CEO of Manitoba Telecom Services, this one had to have been the easiest.
The company announced today it has signed a major sponsorship agreement with Canada’s most decorated Olympic athlete ever – and native Manitoban – Cindy Klassen.
Klassen – as most Canadians likely now know – won a Canadian record five Olympic medals at the just-finished 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, to go with her bronze medal from the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.
“On behalf of our over 6,000 employees across the country, particularly the 3,600 employees in Manitoba, I want to congratulate Cindy on her historical performance and for representing our country so brilliantly,” said Blouin, in a release. “I am thrilled that MTS can play a role in assisting this awe-inspiring athlete to continue competing as she sets her sights on future events, including the next Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010.”
As part of the multi-year agreement, Klassen will represent MTS at various events and participate in upcoming marketing campaigns. In addition to the financial support Klassen will receive in order for her to continue training and attending competitions worldwide, MTS is also providing communications services including MTS Wireless, MTS TV, MTS High Speed Internet, and MTS Long Distance.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“This has been an incredible journey for me, and I am looking forward to representing Canada in future competitions,” said Klassen. “I am so very proud to be a Manitoban, and am thrilled to be able to partner with MTS, Manitoba’s home-grown communications company.”
The 2006 Olympics may have concluded Sunday, however Klassen is not slowing down anytime soon. She is scheduled to compete March 3-5 World Cup Heerenveen, Netherlands and March 18-19 at the World Championships in Calgary.
