MTS, SaskTel strike security deal

REGINA and WINNIPEG – MTS-owned AAA Alarm Systems is buying SaskTel’s security company SecurTek’s Manitoba customer accounts for $1.5 million, in exchange for AAA Alarm’s accounts outside of the province, predominantly in Alberta.

The deal will make SecurTek one of the largest security service providers in Alberta, while at the same time, allowing AAA Alarms to further strengthen its position in the Manitoba market.

“This transaction will enhance our strategic position as the leading communications provider in the province of Manitoba by allowing us to concentrate on our alarm services in our home market,” said Kelvin Shepherd, president of MTS’ consumer markets division, in the announcement.

MTS will add home security services to its bundling strategy, which currently offers high-speed broadband, wireless, and high-definition IPTV.

“This agreement will allow SecurTek to focus on geographic growth in its target growth markets of Saskatchewan, Ontario, B.C. and Alberta,” said SaskTel president and CEO Robert Watson in the announcement.

Both companies will begin servicing their respective customers beginning June 29, and promise to honour their existing contracts.
