WINNIPEG – Rural Manitobans will see high speed Internet and wireless improvements throughout 2006, Manitoba Telecom Services has announced.
The company announced plans to expand its digital wireless coverage along Highway 10 and introduce MTS High Speed Internet to six more rural communities.
“We are committed to bringing advanced communications services to as many customers as possible,” said Kelvin Shepherd, president of Consumer Markets, MTS Allstream, in a release. “These plans will give our cellular and high speed Internet services an even bigger and stronger footprint across the province.”
MTS Mobility will see eight new digital cellular sites added to the network, including six new sites that will provide complete digital coverage along Highway 10 from Swan River all the way to Flin Flon.
A site near Highway 6 at Grand Rapids will provide new digital access for the northern Interlake, and a new site at Paint Lake will expand digital coverage south of Thompson.
MTS will also expand high speed Internet coverage to Alexander, Balmoral, Blumenort, Gunton, Piney and Sprague.
“This will provide unprecedented digital wireless coverage in northern Manitoba, and bring our rural High Speed Internet coverage to 162 communities," said Shepherd. "Modern communications services make a significant contribution to quality of life in these areas and we are proud to reinforce our position as the leading communications provider to Manitoba communities.”
The network expansion will begin this spring, and be complete before the end of 2006.
