WINNIPEG – MTS unveiled its new multi-million dollar network monitoring and management facility Thursday, known as the Manitoba Network Operations Centre (MNOC).

Located in MTS's downtown campus in Winnipeg, the MNOC is equipped with the latest software-based operational support systems and staffed by more than 50 skilled technicians, managers and support personnel.  This new facility is unique in Manitoba and will provide 24/7 monitoring, surveillance and management of MTS's critical network infrastructure plus act as a hub for innovation, knowledge and communications for MTS's network operations personnel.

The facility will allow for around-the-clock monitoring and surveillance for critical network components, including:

– More than 200 cellular sites;

– More than 1000 broadband cabinets – providing TV and Internet services to more than 100,000 customers;

– More than 1000 IP data circuits;

– More than 10,000 kilometres of backbone fibre networks in Manitoba; and

– More than 10,000 IP routers, servers and firewalls.

"MTS is the only communications provider with a local network operations centre right here in Manitoba," said MTS president Kelvin Shepherd, in the announcement.  "Our technicians understand our province and our customers' needs better because they live and work here, and customers can enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having dedicated, local teams proactively managing the networks that support their critical communications services."

MTS added that it expects the new MNOC to continue to expand in the coming years as a result of future growth and changes in technology.
