MTS Mobility offers three location-based services to wireless customers

WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream Inc. launched Wednesday three new location-based services, known as Locate Services, to its MTS Mobility wireless customers: The Seek and Find, the GoTrax and No. TAXI.

The services use assisted global positioning satellite (AGPS) technology, and are available to customers with AGPS-enabled devices within MTS Mobility 1x and 1xEV-DO coverage areas.

The Seek and Find service allows parents or caregivers to locate family and friends by viewing the location of their wireless device in “real-time” from an Internet connection. Features include the ability to set up landmarks and receive regular location alerts based on daily routines, such as arrivals from work or school.

Web-based business application GoTrax enables companies to locate their mobile employees in “real time” on an interactive map from a desktop or laptop computer. It can be added as a feature on customers’ wireless accounts. This service allows employees to be dispatched more quickly, response times can be improved and fleets can be better managed.

With No. TAXI, customers easily order a taxi cab with their wireless device by dialing TAXI, or 8294. The service uses the location of the wireless device to determine all available cab companies in the area. It is available in Manitoba in Winnipeg, Brandon, Steinbach, Selkirk, Dauphin and The Pas, and in most cities across Canada where taxi service is available.

“Families, individuals and business owners need the right tools to tackle the challenges of today’s hectic lifestyles,” said Stan Kurtas, MTS Allstream vice-president of marketing, consumer markets. “The launch of MTS Allstream’s Locate Services is one more example of how we provide innovative products to our customers that they can use to make life more manageable.”
