WINNIPEG – As part of Wednesday’s Earth Day celebrations, MTS Allstream conducted “an office supply exchange” which saw its employees return nearly-new, unneeded office supplies to the company’s supply rooms, with the surplus donated to local schools.
The company said in a press release that it is also a member of the ‘One Million Acts of Green’ initiative, and estimates that its employees have contributed over 15,000 Acts of Green towards the goal.
An Act of Green can be as simple as turning the lights off when you exit a room, or something more complex such as green home renovations. To date, the One Million Acts of Green initiative has saved over 83 million kilograms of greenhouse gas.
Describing itself as “a socially and environmentally responsible company”, the release also detailed its efforts to constructing and upgrading office buildings to be more energy efficient, the introduction of a ‘no-idling’ policy for its fleet vehicles, and its “comprehensive” office recycling program.
MTS Allstream said that it is also committed to helping its customers to go green by making cell phone, battery, charger and headset recycling available at its MTS Connect stores in Manitoba, plus offer e-billing initiatives to reduce the use of paper.
"Our commitment to the environment means that we strive to reduce our collective carbon footprint, take green action in our business operations and help our customers, employees and stakeholders do the same,” said CEO Pierre Blouin in the release. “This is something that is very important to the way we do business."
