WINNIPEG – More than 1,000 unionized white-collar employees working at MTS Inc. voted Friday to authorize a strike action, the first in the TEAM-IFPTE Local 161’s 40-year history.
The TEAM managers, supervisors, and professionals voted 82.8% in favour of a strike. They would not be able to legally go on strike until July 16. Negotiations between the union local and MTS have been ongoing since earlier this year.
An MTS official speaking on behalf of the company told the Winnipeg Free Press, “MTS is bargaining in good faith with TEAM and our goal is to bring the collective-bargaining process to a positive conclusion as soon as possible. We are working towards reaching a fair and equitable agreement and look forward to returning to the bargaining table [this] week.”
The Telecommunications Employees Association of Manitoba – IFPTE Local 161 (TEAM), represents approximately one-third of the workforce at MTS Inc.
