WINNIPEG – Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. has launched on-demand programming in Winnipeg, offering movies, kids’ shows, and other services at the touch of a button.
MTS has signed up more than 40,000 subscribers to its IPTV (Internet-delivered television) service in the last few years. “Now were making a substantial leap into on-demand programming. We’ve put into place a network and an on-demand platform that will continue to redefine consumer expectations of television with new services and unmatched convenience,” says Cheryl Barker, President, MTS (Manitoba).
MTS TV is a digital television service, offered through Motorola set-top boxes, providing more than 200 channels, including more than 25 themed channel packages and MTS Games on Demand. In addition to video-on-demand, MTS is adding new features, including more local information such as weather, airport arrivals and departures, school/garbage day, horoscopes, and more.
The on-demand system is provided by Maryland-based SeaChange, whose VOD servers and software are used by more than 100 broadband networks worldwide, forming the foundation for most commercial on-demand TV services around the world.
MTS is Canada’s third-largest communications provider.
