MTS joins Sprint Nextel’s alliance

WINNIPEG – MTS Allstream has joined Sprint Nextel’s Global Alliance program which will offer its wireless customers access to “a broader range of devices”.

The company said that it will leverage Sprint’s handset lineups, vendor relationships and buying power for its MTS Mobility customers in Manitoba.  MTS Allstream, operating under the MTS brand in Manitoba, had 438,300 wireless subscribers as of March 31, 2009.

"MTS Allstream is the leading wireless provider in Manitoba,” said Kelvin Shepherd, president of consumer markets, in the announcement. “We already feature Manitoba’s widest wireless network, and our relationship with Sprint will help us bring more of the newest handsets and wireless devices to our customers and the Manitoba market."

In related news, the company announced that it has renewed its relationship with Red River College for five years in a deal worth approximately $1 million.

Since January 2003, MTS Allstream has supported Red River College by providing communications equipment and services, hiring its students and graduates, awarding student scholarships, and participating in its career fairs.

The College, Manitoba’s second largest post-secondary institution, unveiled the new MTS Allstream Lecture Hall at its Notre Dame Campus last week.
