MTS Allstream deals for Multinet

TORONTO – MTS Allstream Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom
Services, announced Wednesday it has acquired Multinet Communications Services Inc., a Montreal-based telephony systems and customer network solutions provider.

The deal strengthens MTS Allstream’s competitive position, the company said, by expanding its Unified Communications solutions delivery and service capabilities on a
national basis, and particularly in Quebec, one of the Allstream’s key business markets and areas of investment.

“The Multinet acquisition demonstrates an ongoing commitment to growing our Unified Communications portfolio capabilities,” said MTS Allstream CEO Pierre Blouin in a statement. “Similarly, the fact that Multinet was chosen for its skilled workforce and strong Quebec presence shows a true commitment to our success in that province.”

“The acquisition of Multinet is complementary to MTS Allstream’s existing business, and is consistent with our ongoing strategy to grow nationally,” Blouin said. “MTS Allstream has a long track record of prudently investing in businesses that leverage our core competencies – the Multinet acquisition is consistent with that approach.”

Established more than 20 years ago, Multinet has a base of more than 7,000 customers nationally, primarily in the retail and hospitality industries. More than 50% of their customers are Quebec-based companies and the majority of Multinet’s 80 employees are located in Montreal and Quebec City.

“We are very excited to join forces with MTS Allstream,” said Leslie Greenberg, President, Multinet Communications. “By combining the expertise and resources of our companies, we will be able to offer our customers a broader range of IP Connectivity, Unified Communications, IT Services and Security Solutions – all backed up by the financial strength of MTS Allstream.”
