Movieola gives boost to Joost

TORONTO – Movieola, the short film channel, announced an agreement Monday to bring the best of its short film content to Joost, which bills itself as the world’s first broadcast-quality Internet television service.

“Movieola is the first destination for short form content in the world, and Joost is definitely the next step in ensuring we continue to be a leader in short film content within the multiplatform universe,” said Romen Podzyhun, president and CEO of Channel Zero Inc., Movieola`s parent company. “We have content from all over the world, and now through Joost, we are able to distribute it to all viewers around the world.“

Besides cable networks Movieola and Silver Screen Classics, Channel Zero’s family now includes Ouat Media Inc., a film and new media content distributor.

Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, executive vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Joost, added: “Joost is an entertainment destination with high-quality, professionally-produced programming that appeals to everyone. Adding Movieola to the Joost platform ensures our audiences have access to some of the best short film content from around the world.”

Founded by Skype and Kazaa backers Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, Joost combines TV and the Internet by offering viewers a full-screen audiovisual experience enhanced with the choice, control and flexibility of Web 2.0. Joost is the first online, global TV distribution platform, bringing together advertisers, content owners and viewers in an interactive, community-driven environment. It isn`t quite ready for prime time yet as it is still in Beta test mode.
