TORONTO – On September 4, 2006, Movieola will unveil its new look. The short film channel will show off its new brand as well as its new fall line-up that will feature new content and new programming strands.
“We are very excited about our new look,” says Romen Podzyhun, president and CEO, Channel Zero Inc. “With new emerging media platforms, short films are experiencing a shift to the forefront on the international market… we plan to continue to be the leader in short-form content broadcasting and distribution”.
Programming premiering in September include:
SOME FOLKS CALL IT A SLINGBLADE – See the award-winning short film that brought Billy Bob Thornton and his directorial debut SLINGBLADE to the big screen. SOME FOLKS CALL IT A SLINGBLADE tells the story of Karl Childers, who is going to be released from an institution for the criminally insane, twenty-five years after committing a double murder.
WASP – is the story of Zoë, a single mother who has fallen under financial hardship and can’t afford to feed her children. One day she bumps into Dave, a man she used to fancy. When he asks her out, she lies about having kids and leaves them outside of a pub. Nearby, a bin attracts wasps looking for food. WASP was the 2005 Academy Award winning short film that vaulted Andrea Arnold into directorial stardom, leading to her first feature film, RED ROAD, which premieres later this month at the Toronto International Film Festival.
PEARL HARBOUR II: PEARLMAGEDDON – It’s the day after “the day that will live in infamy”, and Pearl Harbor is under attack again… this time, by asteroids! This comedic short film is the spoof of all action spoofs, offering the best seven minutes of true hilarity you’ll see on TV this month.
