VANCOUVER – Canadians overwhelmingly support Bill C-555, also known as the Get Connected Fairly Act, according to a national online survey conducted by Angus Reid Strategies.
The private member’s bill, introduced by Liberal David McGuinty earlier this month, would prohibit a cell phone carrier from levying any additional fees and charges that are not part of a customer’s monthly plan rate, and to compel a cell phone carrier to detail the costs associated with roaming or coverage charges.
According to the survey, 87% or respondents would like their Member of Parliament to vote in favour of this bill in the House of Commons, while only 4% are against it and 9% undecided.
Angus Reid said support for the proposed legislation is high across all regions and demographics.
The online survey was conducted from June 16-17 among a randomly selected, representative sample of 1,001 adult Canadians. The margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus 3.1 %, 19 times out of 20.
