More talk, more depth at 940NEWS, now The New 940Montreal

MONTREAL – All-news gets newsier in Montreal with the addition of in-depth reporting and more talk on 940NEWS.

The Corus-owned station “will build on its current all-news format to include more behind-the-scenes, in-depth coverage and daily talk forums hosted by seasoned Montreal news professionals,” says today’s release.

A name change will mark this shift: “The New 940Montreal. Your News. Your Views.” The station will continue to deliver the traffic reports at one minute after the hour and every ten minutes thereafter from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, “but it will add reports and features on the stories behind the news and the views of listeners, for more balanced, insightful coverage,” says the station.

The updated format will launch tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14.

"The station’s ‘Your News. Your Views.’ news/talk format takes what we’ve been doing successfully and what listeners have responded to up a notch," said Mark Dickie, general manager of the station, in the release. "Our commitment to news headlines, traffic and weather hasn’t changed, but now we’re going to go after the stories behind the stories and assume our position as the city’s source for hard-hitting news. Plus we’ll be giving our listeners the chance to
express their views on the news that is affecting their lives."

Morning and evening drive-times will continue to provide news headlines, weather and traffic, but will add more in-depth content including business reports and political analysis.

From 9 a.m. to noon listeners will hear the stories and live interviews behind the hot issues of the day on Montreal Today, hosted by Aphrodite Salas, senior anchor for Global News @ 6, and the “lively and opinionated” Andreas Bjornson.

The Noon News with Ken Connors will feature sports with The Montreal Gazette’s Jack Todd, a midday Business Review from 940Montreal’s Patrick Letang as well as the Health Report from Dr. Mitch Shulman.

Late afternoons will be devoted to Charles Adler, host of Adler Online: The National Edition, as the former Montrealer returns to the airwaves in Montreal.

"Guests and contributors will be the who’s who of Montreal," says Chris Bury, program director for the station. "We’ll be delivering more sports updates, more business coverage, and more news than the competition, plus a chance to hear experts and newsmakers comment on the news of the day."
