
QUEBEC and GUELPH – A $6.34-million joint investment from the Canada-Quebec Operation High Speed will see 2,510 households in the Côte-de-Beaupré RCM gain access to Xplornet’s high-speed Internet services by September 2022, the Quebec government announced today.
Xplornet will receive $3.8 million from the governments, with the rest coming from the company.
The communities to be covered by fibre include Beaupré, Boischatel, Château-Richer, L’Ange-Gardien, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, Saint-Joachim, Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague-du-Cap-Tourmente, Saint-Tite-des-Caps
Also today, Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) announced construction of new broadband infrastructure continues to move forward in Wellington County as Cogeco Connexion breaks ground to bring high-speed internet service to more than 280 additional homes and businesses in the community of Eden Mills, just outside of Guelph, Ont.
The $976,000 high-speed broadband project (the ongoing install is pictured above on Cogeco’s Instagram account) is expected to be completed by August 2021.
SWIFT said work is also underway in the Township of Centre Wellington as Cogeco has begun construction of a $7.3 million fibre-optic network to bring improved broadband service to more than 1,770 homes and businesses throughout the communities of Brucedale, Centre Inn, Everton, Oustic, Simpson Corners, Shands, Spier, Belwood, Pine Meadows, Maple Leaf Acres, Centre Wellington and Guelph Eramosa. The project is expected to be completed, with service fully available by December 2021.
As well, in the Township of Wellington North, North Frontenac Telephone Company (NFTC) is completing the network build of a $2 million fibre-to-the-home solution that will bring high-speed internet access to approximately 275 households and businesses between the communities of Wallenstein and Arthur. Service expected to be fully available later this month.
