More leadership positions set at Canwest


TORONTO – Today, it’s the new marketing folks who are front and centre in a Canwest personnel release, post Alliance Atlantis merger.

Walter Levitt, Chief Marketing Officer at Canwest Broadcasting officially announced the senior team that will lead the newly integrated marketing organization.

“Our new leadership team brings together the country’s most talented and experienced broadcast marketing executives,” said Levitt, in the release. “Canwest has an unbeatable portfolio of television brands, and we are excited about the growth opportunities that lie ahead.”

The following members of the team, taken directly from the Canwest release, will be reporting directly to Levitt:

Chris Fuoco, vice-president, distribution and account marketing “will lead Canwest Broadcasting’s content distribution strategy, working with licensed Canadian distributors including cable, satellite and telephone companies. Mr. Fuoco is a well-respected broadcast executive who has led Alliance Atlantis’ innovative and industry-leading distribution team over the last several years. Prior to his current role, Mr. Fuoco spent several years in senior marketing roles at Bell ExpressVu and Procter & Gamble.”

Deborah Lewis, vice-president, communications “will be responsible for Canwest Broadcasting’s external and internal communications efforts. Before joining Canwest in 2007, Ms. Lewis spent over 15 years developing communications programs for national and international corporations including notable brands such as Inside Entertainment, FQ and SIR Magazines, Wire Image, Diesel and Hugo Boss.”

David O’Brien, vice-president, creative agency “will head the new centralized Creative Agency in Toronto, leading creative development for Global entertainment, Global News, all specialty channels and client requirements. Mr. O’Brien has a proven track record launching and growing successful TV brands at both Alliance Atlantis and CTV, leading teams to create effective, award-winning advertising campaigns.”

Brad Parry, vice-president, marketing, E! “is responsible for the marketing and publicity strategy and all creative for E! in Canada. Mr. Parry joined Canwest in 2005 and was responsible for the successful launch of the E! brand in Canada this past fall. Prior to Canwest, he had over 12 years of experience working with the country’s largest advertising agencies managing several blue chip brands. Mr. Parry and his team will remain based in Calgary.”

Jamie Schouela, vice-president, marketing strategy, Global “will lead the marketing and publicity strategy for Global entertainment and Global News. Mr. Schouela has spearheaded Global’s marketing efforts since 2005 and has led numerous successful campaigns. Prior to joining Canwest, Mr. Schouela was responsible for the marketing of several of the country’s biggest specialty brands including Showcase.”

Muriel Solomon, vice-president, marketing strategy, specialty “will now oversee the marketing and publicity strategy for all of Canwest’s specialty channels. Ms. Solomon’s promotion is a reflection of the leadership role she has played in the growth of many Alliance Atlantis networks over the last several years including HGTV and Food Network. An experienced and well-respected marketer, Ms. Solomon also brings several years of packaged goods marketing experience to her role.”
