MONTREAL – Bilingual radio station 94.7 Hits FM has dropped the hard rap in favour of family-friendly hip hop, dance and pop music under the new slogan ‘Montreal's Hottest Music’.

Owned by American radio broadcasting company Martz Communications Group, the station hinted that its new format may be the first of more changes to come as it struggles to stand out amongst increased competition.

"We are no longer a small local station, we now have a strong international presence, which is a unique position to be in," said marketing director Tina Paylan, in the news release. "Despite having started out as a small station with limited resources, we managed to have a considerable impact on Montreal listeners from day one. This new on air sound marks the first of many phases of development we are undergoing in order to adapt to our growing audience and continue to differentiate ourselves in an evolving market like Montreal."

94.7 Hits FM added that it now has more than 85,000 fans on Facebook and its monthly page views have topped 100,000.
