Mobilicity says it’s the fastest-growing new entrant with 63,000 new customers

TORONTO – Mobilicity claims it now the nation's fastest-growing new wireless entrant, reporting it grew by approximately 63,000 net additions during the fourth quarter of 2011. The company forecasts in a media release that it will “considerably outpace its peers based on results disclosed thus far.” It added that it finished the year with an average revenue per user (ARPU) slightly over $30.

In another announcement from Mobilicity from last November, it said it had attracted more than 250,000 customers since launching its service in May, 2010. Today’s press release unfortunately does not specify if the 63,000 net additions are in addition to this reported customer base and a company spokesperson, confirmed to Cartt.ca that Mobilicity does comment on total subscribers.

Some financial analysts, however, peg the company’s total subscribers in the 200,000 range. In research released to clients last week, Scotia Capital's Jeff Fan estimated a range of 180,000 to 200,000 subscribers for Mobilicity.

"In just our second year of operations, Mobilicity continues to shake up the industry as the fastest-growing new entrant, adding even more subscribers last quarter than one of the Big 3 incumbents," said Mobilicity president and chief operating officer Stewart Lyons in the press release today.

"Our value-based service is clearly resonating with Canadian consumers. The Federal Government's desire to foster a competitive environment has worked, and providing new entrants with access to more spectrum through the 700 MHz auction will be an important component of furthering the gains in competition realized to date."
