Microsoft completes purchase of Nokia’s cellphone, services unit

REDMOND, WA - Microsoft Corp. completed its $7.5 billion US acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business Friday, after the deal was approved by Nokia shareholders and by governmental regulatory agencies around the world.Microsoft said that former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will serve as executive vice-president of the Microsoft Devices Unit, an expanded devices business that includes Nokia’s former Lumia smartphones and tablets, Nokia mobile phones, Xbox hardware, Surface, Perceptive Pixel (PPI) products, and accessories.The deal also includes approximately 25,000 Nokia employees from around the world.  Microsoft also pledged to honour all existing Nokia customer warranties for existing devices,...
