McDonald named Super Channel’s COO amidst restructuring

EDMONTON – Super Channel has promoted Don McDonald to COO as part of a number of new staff appointments announced this week.

Reporting to CEO Charles Allard, McDonald (pictured) will lead the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the company while continuing to oversee the company’s corporate finance and accounting functions.  He was previously executive director of finance and administration.

McDonald takes over from former president and COO Malcolm Knox, who, along with former programming VP Sandy Perkins, left the company in in September as a result of the restructuring, a company spokesperson told Cartt.ca.  Technical operations director Andrew Selwood is also no longer with the company.

Reporting to McDonald are:

– Melissa Kajpust, currently head of creative development, will continue in this role and see it expanded to also include director of programming, international distributors & Canadian pre-sales;

– Troy Wassill, previously program manager, is appointed to director of programming, domestic distributors & sports.

– Katie Lee joins the company from Gateway Casinos and Entertainment in the newly created position of director, consumer marketing where she will direct co-operative marketing efforts with BDUs and oversee direct-to-consumer eMarketing initiatives and subscriber engagement, including digital and social media;

– Dan Rudolph, previously director, program services aand on demand, sees scheduling added to his responsibilities in his newly expanded role as director, program services & content scheduling; and

– Kimberley Ball, publicity manager, sees her role expanded to director, media relations and sponsorship.

Also reporting to McDonald in their current roles are creative director Michael Burgess, and affiliate sales and marketing director Grant Campbell.

Darcy Hnatiuk, on loan from Super Channel’s Limited Partner CRA Investments Ltd., was appointed general manager in June, and assists with advisory support to McDonald, while continuing his duties as GM of Super Channel’s sister entity, Touch Canada Broadcasting Limited Partnership.

Super Channel remains under CCAA protection until February 2, 2017.
