MONTREAL — Quebecor announced Friday the appointment of Martin Tremblay as the new chief operating officer of the company’s Sports and Entertainment Group. Previously vice-president of public affairs for Quebecor, Tremblay now becomes a member of the company’s executive committee with this appointment.
Tremblay will be based in Quebec City to ensure the development of Quebecor’s Sports and Entertainment Group and the optimal coordination of its operations, the company said in a press release. As part of his role, Tremblay will be responsible for all of the activities of the Gestev event management division, the Videotron Center, and the Quebec Remparts and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada junior hockey teams.
“I had the privilege of offering Martin to join Quebecor in 2010 and I have entrusted him with the overseeing of the Quebec City amphitheater project. He carried out this mission and, among other things, represented the company in the design and construction of what would become the Videotron Center,” said Quebecor president and CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau, in the press release. “In 2012, I asked him to take on the responsibility of Quebecor’s communications as Vice-President, Public Affairs. In his new role, Martin will further contribute to the development and outreach of our company.”
Originally from Saguenay, Que., Tremblay holds a Bachelor’s degree in international relations from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. He previously worked for several years in political offices, including the Ministère de l’Environnement and the Ministère des Affaires municipales du Québec, and was also employed by CASACOM, a public relations firm in Montreal.
Finally, Tremblay was a member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) board of governors from 2014 to 2017. He also filled the position of vice-president of the QMJHL executive committee during the last year.
Tremblay becomes COO of Quebecor’s Sports and Entertainment Group at a time when the segment is experiencing decreased revenue and has been reporting income losses for several quarters. On Thursday, as part of its quarterly financial results release, Quebecor reported the company’s Sports and Entertainment segment had an adjusted operating loss of $5.5 million in the second quarter of 2017.
