Maritime Broadcasting hires Newcap’s Shannon


HALIFAX – MBS Radio has hired Mike Shannon as its new vice -resident, programming.

Shannon has spent the last three years at Newcap Broadcasting in Alberta with titles such as director of network programming, director of programming, and operations manager for properties in Edmonton, Calgary, and Camrose.

“Mike has a wealth of experience in all aspects of radio programming and management," said Robert Pace, chairman of MBS Radio. Shannon began his broadcasting career in 1985 in Fredericton, and has worked in such Maritime markets as Saint John, Moncton and Halifax, says the press release. Shannon was recognized nationally in 1999 as secondary market program director of the year by Canadian Music Week, and is currently a member of the national editorial committee for CP/Broadcast News.

“After spending 17 years in broadcasting in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, I am thrilled to be returning home to join Maritime Broadcasting at this point in their evolution” said Shannon. “Mr. Pace has positioned the company for long-term success, and I’m honored to be joining the team. With the upcoming conversions to the FM band for CHNS-AM in Halifax and CFCY-AM in Charlottetown, the next couple of years will be full of hard work and growth. The team that is already in place have done a tremendous job, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the continued growth of Maritime Broadcasting in all markets."

Shannon will join MBS Radio, which owns 25 radio stations and has 410 employees serving communities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, in Halifax within the next few weeks.
