TORONTO — Blue Ant Media announced today its Makeful channel will broadcast the Canadian premiere of a new reality series, The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation, which features Prince Charles (above, centre) as a judge.
Debuting Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Makeful, the seven-episode series hosted by comedian and artist Jim Moir (above, left) spotlights “Britain’s rich heritage of traditional crafts,” explains a press release.
The series “follows six amateur craftspeople as they learn Heritage Crafts skills crucial to the preservation of landmark buildings, taking on a variety of crafting challenges to supercharge their abilities before creating a final showcase piece to present to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales,” the release reads.
Each episode is themed around one key discipline, including wood carving, stained glass art, weaving, blacksmithing, stone carving and pargeting. The competitors are joined by some of Britain’s leading experts in these skills, including wood carver Sarah Goss, blacksmith Phil Carter, stone carver Zoe Wilson, pargetter Johanna Welsh, stained glass artist Derek Hunt and weaver Rezia Wahid.
The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation is produced by Spun Gold TV and Motion Content Group for Sky, with support from The Prince’s Foundation.
With some of Britain’s heritage crafts having been declared extinct and many endangered, “The Prince’s Foundation advocates for the revival and preservation of heritage craft skills through spreading awareness among young people, sparking a resurgence of interest in crafting and offering an array of education and training programmes through its UK sites,” the release says.
“The Prince’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation aims to bring some of these crafts back to life, reinvigorating them with a new generation of talent,” the release adds.
