
Sportsnet, TSN, TVA Sports announce broadcast schedules
LIVE MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS action is returning to television and Sportsnet, TSN and TVA Sports all announced their broadcast schedules today.
With its exclusive national coverage of the resumption of the NHL season and the start of the Toronto Blue Jays’ 2020 regular season, along with its shared broadcast responsibilities for Toronto Raptors games, Rogers’ Sportsnet is offering Canadian fans the most major league sports on TV, radio and streaming platforms this summer, starting this week.
In the first of 60 Blue Jays games available only on Sportsnet, the Jays open their regular season on Friday, July 24 on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays. Starting at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT, Sportsnet will cover the game on Sportsnet, Sportsnet One, Sportsnet Now and the Sportsnet Radio Network. Sportsnet will also air live the other two games in the weekend series on Saturday, July 25 (2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. PT) and Sunday, July 26 (12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT).
Sportsnet’s TV and radio broadcast teams for Blue Jays games include: Dan Shulman calling the games on TV with Buck Martinez breaking down the play; studio host Jamie Campbell and analyst Joe Siddall bookending each game on Blue Jays Central; Hazel Mae and Arash Madani providing remote reporting, along with remote analysis from Pat Tabler and Justin Morneau; Ben Wagner and Mike Wilner sharing the radio play-by-play call across the Sportsnet radio network; and providing Tagalog coverage, Andrea Aquino, Mike Cruz, Senen Salacup and Charles de Torres return to tee up Blue Jays: Pinoy Edition, Sunday afternoons on OMNI Television.
With NHL play officially resuming with Stanley Cup Qualifier games on Saturday, August 1, Sportsnet will be providing English-language coverage of five games that day on Sportsnet, Sportsnet One, Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet Radio Network, Sportsnet Now and NHL Live.
In addition, TVA Sports will provide French-language broadcasts of three of the games on August 1, including the Montreal Canadiens vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. ET. TVA Sports has obtained the exclusive French-language broadcast rights from Rogers for all qualifying round games and exhibition games, in addition to all rounds of the 2020 playoffs leading up to the Stanley Cup.
Through the CBC, Rogers will also broadcast the Montreal vs. Pittsburgh game on Saturday, August 1, as well as the Winnipeg Jets vs. Calgary Flames game later that night at 10:30 p.m. ET.
For its NHL coverage, Sportsnet’s roster of broadcasters, analysts and insiders include: in Edmonton, play-by-play announcer Chris Cuthbert making his Sportsnet debut alongside game analyst Louie DeBrusk, providing the live call for the Western Conference qualifying series featuring Canadian teams; in Toronto, Jim Hughson and analyst Craig Simpson delivering the play-by-play call for Canadian teams vying for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference hub; from the Hockey Central studio, hosts Ron MacLean and David Amber anchoring pre-, intermission and post-game commentary with Sportsnet’s NHL insiders and analysts Elliotte Friedman, Kelly Hrudey, Brian Burke, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Colby Armstrong, Kevin Bieksa and Anthony Stewart; and in Punjabi, Harnarayan Singh, Randip Janda, Harpreet Pandher and Gurpreet Sian teaming up for select Saturday night games on Hockey Night in Canada: Punjabi Edition on OMNI Television.
Also on Saturday, August 1, Sportsnet will televise the Toronto Raptors’ first game of the restarted NBA regular season when they take on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. The game will air at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet One, Citytv and Sportsnet Now. Five more of the Raptors’ regular season games will be available on Sportsnet One and/or the Sportsnet radio network, leading up to the start of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
Bell Media’s TSN will also broadcast several Raptors regular season games, either on TSN or TSN Radio 1050 Toronto, starting with its radio broadcast of the Raptors vs. L.A. Lakers match-up on August 1.
Before the Raptors regular season resumes, fans can also watch them in action in scrimmage games. TSN is providing live coverage of the Raptors’ scrimmages against the Houston Rockets (Friday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET) and the Phoenix Suns (Tuesday, July 28 at 3 p.m. ET), while Sportsnet will broadcast the Raptors vs. Portland Trailblazers showdown (Sunday, July 26 at 6 p.m. ET) on Sportsnet and Sportsnet Now.
