TORONTO – Love Nature, Smithsonian Earth and Plimsoll Productions are teaming up on a new state-of-the art production facility called Camp Zambia that will produce 4K wildlife and nature programs from the African country.
The three companies pledged to produce 50 hours of programming over the next two years for Love Nature’s Canadian and international SVoD and television offerings and Smithsonian Networks’ standalone streaming service Smithsonian Earth, in the U.S. It will also be available for licensing worldwide via Blue Ant International.
The remote location of Camp Zambia offers up an unspoiled wilderness at the heart of a 500 mile-long valley marking the end of the Great Rift Valley, with its huge concentrations of elephants, leopards and hippopotami, reads the news release. From their Luangwa base, the Camp Zambia team will also range into other parts of Zambia to film the wildebeest and zebra migrations of the Liuwa Plains and the heartwarming elephant stories from the country’s dedicated sanctuary. A military night vision Selex camera used throughout production will capture behaviour and visuals from night activity throughout the production.
“Camp Zambia truly is an amazing endeavor, created to bring audiences the most extraordinary and diverse wildlife and nature content to be enjoyed for years to come,” said Love Nature (International) managing director Jo Parkinson, in the release. “The expansive landscapes, varied weather conditions and vast array of wildlife make the ideal combination for a spectacular 4K experience.”
“Camp Zambia represents an unprecedented commitment by Smithsonian Earth and Love Nature,” added Smithsonian Networks EVP programming and production David Royle. “Embedding film crews in a single location for two years, which allows for round-the clock-filming, will provide global audiences with an extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves into the lives of individual animals.”
