LG recalling 150

TORONTO – Both Bell Canada and Virgin Mobile are helping supplier LG recall over tens of thousands of LG 150 model handsets from Canadian subscribers.

The companies will replace the phones at no charge and they are, or have already, notified customers of the recall.

“LG was notified by one of the independent bodies responsible for the certification of mobile phones that the LG 150 mobile phone is no longer certified as meeting the Radio Standards Specifications 102 (RSS 102), Radio Frequency Exposure Compliance of Radiocommunication Apparatus,” reads the Bell release announcing the recall.

"LG has mobilized quickly in response to these findings on behalf of our customers," said William Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Canada, in its release. "LG’s preliminary testing indicates that only LG 150 phones from specific production runs may be affected by this issue. LG is therefore recommending that all LG 150 phones manufactured within such production runs be returned in accordance with the guidelines set out below. LG is continuing to test the LG 150 phones. However, because customer satisfaction and safety continue to be our primary commitment, we are taking a proactive approach and working in co-operation with our carriers to recall all LG 150 phones in Canada."

The LG 150 was sold in Canada by Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, MTS Allstream, SaskTel, Aliant Mobility, KMTS, NorthernTel, Sogetel, Télébec and TBayTel.

Bell alone has over 45,000 customers with the LG 150 handset.

It is a compact black flip-phone that can be identified by removing the battery on the back of the phone and reading the label underneath. It reads: "MODEL NO / MODELE: LG 150".

“Health Canada is of the opinion, based on the review of test results and its assessment of current science, that the past and current use of the LG 150 should not pose immediate or long-term health concerns,” added the Virgin, Bell and LG releases.

"We are supporting LG in the implementation of its LG 150 recall program," said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility. "Effective today, our clients who own the LG 150 can take advantage of the straightforward and no-cost phone replacement program we’ve put in place."

No other LG phones and no other phones supplied to Bell Mobility by any other manufacturers are affected by this recall.
