YOU HAVE TO HAND IT TO governments (of any stripe) when it comes to being foolish with taxpayers money. According to the piece you ran in Cartt.ca today, they are spending $6.27 million to provide service to 2500 residents (their number).
That works out to a tidy $2,508 per person! Now considering that you can get an off the shelf satellite based broadband system installed for about $500, we have a pretty outrageous proposition here.
It gets worse if you consider that if we base the calculation on the number of homes (400) and buildings (65) quoted by them, the cost per location goes to a whopping $13,483. Now we’re talking some real dollars here.
Even if there were five times as many locations, the cost per is still about $2,700 each.
C’est la vie.
