THERE IS NOBODY I’ve talked to recently who isn’t looking forward to a little break this holiday season.
We’ve all been made exhausted by 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic which has dominated everything.
That said, the cable, radio, television and telecom industries should feel nothing but enormous pride in the hard work all of you have done this year for the millions of Canadians who need their connectivity, their news, their favourite shows, movies, music and radio personalities, to get through so many fraught days.
The truly brilliant stories of companies and their employees going above and beyond to keep the broadband and wireless networks humming, to help vulnerable groups get or stay connected, to take to the airwaves to raise funds for those who need it, or who did whatever it took to broadcast needed news and so on and on, are innumerable.
Every one of you deserves a hearty pat on the back and we at Cartt.ca thank each of you for the work you do. Seriously, click on that big orange banner above, or just search “Covid” on the site to see how the industry has responded so well to the pandemic and the needs of their customers, viewers or listeners.
The fantastic news as 2020 draws to a close is that science is winning this battle. Vaccines have begun to roll out to our hard-working health care workers – who we will never be able to thank enough – and the elderly who have been shut in for most of the year.
That doesn’t mean it’s yet time to pull down our guard. We all need to continue to do our part. Wear your masks like our little gingerbread friend here, keep a distance, listen to the experts from your local health authority and limit your holiday celebrations to your household. It won’t be easy, but it’s necessary.
Of course, we wish nothing but the best for 2021 to you and yours. We at Cartt.ca are taking some time off, too, so this will be the last newsletter for 2020. We will return January 11th with our coverage from the virtual Consumer Electronics Show (and, as a reader reminded us Thursday morning, day one of the CRTC hearing into CBC’s licence renewal).
So, we wish you a Merry Christmas, a belated Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year, or that you enjoy whatever celebration you and yours hold dear at this time of year.
