Largest commercial satellite and antenna lock in to place

TORONTO – The largest commercial satellite antenna ever deployed is now poised to deliver voice, data and video services using an all-IP next-generation mobile broadband network.

The TerreStar-1 satellite, which reached its assigned orbital position in the geosynchronous arc Tuesday, also launched its 18-metre 2 GHz S-Band reflector, the largest commercial satellite antenna ever deployed.

The satellite and reflector will provide integrated satellite and terrestrial communications components in Canada and the United States to help solve “the critical communications and business continuity challenges” faced by emergency responders, government, enterprises and remote communities, the press release said.

"We are very excited with the two critical milestones that TerreStar-1 has achieved since its July 1st launch" said Steve Nichols, EVP of operations, in the release. "Today’s announcement signals that we are closer to providing the North American market with the latest technology to employ in meeting customers’ critical organizational communications needs."
