Klassen skates through Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – In a salute to Canadian speed skater (and MTS spokeswoman) Cindy Klassen, a 15-foot snow sculpture of the Olympic medalist has been created at the corner of Broadway and Main in Winnipeg.

The sculpture (pictured below), which depicts the popular local speed skater racing with a herd of bison, also acknowledges the continued support of MTS Allstream as a major sponsor of the annual Festival du Voyageur. And with temperatures below minus-30, the sculpture is in no danger of melting.

The Festival du Voyageur is an annual celebration of Canada’s fur trading era held in Saint-Boniface, Winnipeg’s historic French Canadian quarter. Marked by the liveliness and ‘joie de vivre’ of the voyageurs, the unique event highlights the beauty of winter through numerous historical and family-oriented activities, shows, and exhibits. This year’s Festival will take place between February 9 and February 18.
