Kines named chair of MuchFact

TORONTO – Broadcast executive David Kines is the new chairman of CTV’s MuchFact, becoming only the second chair in the history of the fund.

Filling the vacancy left by Bernie Finkelstein’s recent retirement after a 26-year tenure, Kines’ appointment is effective immediately.  MuchFact was created in 1984, concurrent with the launch of MuchMusic, and has directed more than $63 million to over 5,200 projects all aiming to help Canadian musical artists produce materials to further their careers.

“No one knows more about music videos and the impact of music than David Kines,” said Brad Schwartz, SVP and GM of The Much MTV Group at CTV, in Friday’s announcement. “David has a long relationship with MuchFact, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to help evolve the organization than him.”

Kines is synonymous with broadcasting and music television in Canada.  After a stint with The New Music on Citytv, he helped to launch MuchMusic in 1984 and went on to hold a number of senior roles with the music channel.  He joined CTV as SVP of The Much MTV Group for about two years after the broadcaster bought Much owner CHUM in 2006.  Most recently, he was executive producer of entertainment for Molson Canadian Hockey House at the 2010 Winter Games, and co-executive producer of the 2010 Gemini Awards.

“I am honoured to help MuchFact and Much continue to support independent Canadian musicians”, Kines said. “The millions of dollars handed out every year helps our musicians develop careers at home and abroad.”
