Joy10 team named

VANCOUVER – S-VOX officially named the senior management team of Christian broadcast station Joytv 10, which launched Sept. 1 in Vancouver, B.C.

Before S-VOX bought it earlier this year, the broadcaster was a Rogers OMNI station and prior to that was an independent broadcaster called NowTV. Rogers had to commit to the CRTC to sell the Christian station when it acquired Citytv from CTVglobemedia in 2007. It’s always been a religious station.

And, since Rogers purchase of Vancouver’s Channel M last year, OMNI in Vancouver is now a multicultural station.

Amid the changes, Terry Mahoney remains. Mahoney, a broadcast specialist with 35 years of experience, stays on, again, as general manager of the station.

He has also served as vice-president of programming and station operations for Global Television’s affiliate in Kelowna, B.C., and was appointed general manager of OMNI BC in June 2005. Mahoney has won a number of national awards for programming and production. He has served on advisory boards for the British Colombia Institute of Technology and the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters, and is active in many local community organizations.

The others are, as reads the release:

Ken Stewart, Production Manager: Ken Stewart is an award-winning television director and producer. He has produced music videos, directed entertainment specials for CTV, including live concerts with artists such as Neil Young and The Guess Who, and has worked on feature films and TV movies for CBS, NBC, Lifetime Television and Morgan Creek Productions, among others. Mr. Stewart has also directed news and national programs (@ The End, ZeD) for the CBC, as well as the national talk/entertainment show Vicki Gabereau for CTV.

Karen Corbeil, Promotions Director: Karen Corbeil has an extensive background in event management, marketing, business administration, sales and finance. Her marketing experience includes work with the Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, the Vancouver YM/YWCA, and a number of community and regional shopping centres. She has served on the Board of Directors for Vancouver’s Chamber of Commerce, chaired the local Retail & Services Development and Business Excellence Committees, and has been a member of the Advisory Panel for the City’s Social Development Committee.

Gary Milne, General Sales Manager: Gary Milne has nearly 30 years of experience in the broadcast industry. His accomplishments include launching the radio stations BEAT94.5 and Evolution 107.9FM, founding Clubvibes.com, and creating his own convergence marketing company, Satori. He has worked for Fraser Valley Broadcasters and Rogers Media, and has taught at the Broadcast Campus of the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He supports Big Brothers, YMCA, the Salvation Army and Faith Fellowship.

“As we launch the new Joytv brand in the Vancouver market, it gives us tremendous confidence to have such a capable and creative team working on the ground. We are proud to welcome Terry Mahoney and his colleagues to the S-VOX family, and look forward to working closely with them to build the visibility and reputation of Joytv 10 with local viewers and advertisers alike,” said S-VOX president and CEO Bill Roberts.

Toronto-based S-VOX acquired local stations CHNU-TV in Vancouver and CIIT-TV in Winnipeg from Rogers Media Inc. earlier this year. These stations re-launched on Sept. 1 as Joytv 10 in Vancouver (Joytv 7 in Victoria) and Joytv 11 in Winnipeg.

The stations boast new schedules that, for the first time, will include simulcasts of top-rated U.S. network programs such as 60 Minutes and Smallville, along with high-calibre syndicated dramas and comedies including The Practice, Third Watch and Scrubs.
