Technical Audio Producer

The Role:

The Technical Audio Producer is responsible for coordinating all audio sources and operating the audio console during live and pre-recorded productions.

Accountability:

Works under the direction of the Manager, Programming Operations

Primary Responsibilities:

• Evaluate audio and recording requirements for specific production situations;
• Select, set up, test and operate audio equipment;
• Operate audio console and other related equipment during live and pre-taped productions;
• Coordinate multiple audio feeds during studio productions;
• Operate phone equipment and coordinate phone calls during live and pre-taped interviews;
• Make required patches on patch fields;
• Operate the intercom system during studio productions;
• Coordinate audio for purposes of simultaneous interpretation;
• Ensure all audio equipment is operating properly, identify equipment failures and inform the Studio Director;
• Take direction during production from Studio Director;
• Troubleshoot equipment and set-up as required;
• Provide assistance and direction to talent and panel guests;
• Provide advice to producers on technical aspects of audio recording;
• Perform basic maintenance on audio equipment;
• Provide assistance, as needed, in other studio production roles, including operating production switcher;
• Participate in staff, program and other corporate meetings as required;
• Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (knowledge, skills and experience required):

• Certificate, diploma or degree from technical college in electronics, sound recording, radio/television production, or equivalent experience;
• Three years’ experience in sound recording or television production;
• Required to work shifts, evenings, and weekends;
• The job requires some lifting;
• Develops and maintains positive work relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and talent;
• Ability to multi-task in high stress situations;
• Understands basic broadcast electronics, and basic principles of television sound;
• Works well as a member of a team;
• Ability to work to exacting standards under high stress situations;
• Maintains an environment that recognizes, supports, respects, and welcomes diversity of employees.
