TORONTO – Radio veteran Andy Barrie is joining Toronto’s Ryerson University as distinguished scholar in residence in the Faculty of Communication & Design for the 2010-11 academic year.
Barrie, who left CBC Radio One’s Toronto morning program in March, will develop a special interview series focusing on media and communications, act as an advisor to undergraduate and graduate students, and be a resource to students and faculty members in their innovative research initiatives. He will also have a hand in shaping curriculum content at FCAD, which is internationally recognized for its strong journalism and broadcasting programs.
“It’s almost impossible for me to imagine my thirty-plus years as a Toronto broadcaster without the support of so many Ryerson grads along the way – from Valerie Pringle producing my first program at CFRB to Jim Curran at my side for fifteen years at Metro Morning," Barrie said in a statement. "As a Distinguished Scholar in Residence, I look forward to sharing my passion for radio, journalism and storytelling with this next generation of Canadian communicators."
